A Musical Invitation: Stephen Colbert, will you come to Hill Day 2012?

by Rebecca Farley on March 20, 2012

The National Council is pleased to invite Stephen Colbert to attend our 8th Annual Public Policy Institute and Hill Day, June 25-26 in Washington, DC. Hill Day brings together over 500 healthcare professionals who urge Congress to fully fund treatment for the 1 in 5 Americans with a mental health or substance use disorder. Attendees come from nearly every state, but South Carolina has not been represented in the past. This year, we are inviting Stephen Colbert to attend Hill Day 2012 as our South Carolina delegation. Please help our campaign by sharing this video with everyone you know!

“Last Hill Day” by the National Council
(to the tune of “Last Friday Night/T.G.I.F.” by Katy Perry)

There’s a psychologist in a suit,
Here’s my state all in a group,
In the DC summer heat
Armed with lots of fact sheets
One in five Americans
with mental health and addictions
Gotta be a voice for what we do
Only can if we’re in the room

Pictures of last year
Ended up online
and were shared
How swell
It’s a real good time
But one guy wasn’t there…

Last Hill Day
Yeah we met up with our Reps
And we talked about some regs
Think we met on the capitol steps
Last Hill Day
Yeah we held a briefing on
Health IT one of the morns
Then we gave out some awards

Last Hill Day
We shared our stories with LAs
Spoke about the ACA
Think we brought up Medicaid
Last Hill Day
Yeah I hope we change the law
Till we do we won’t stop-op
Whoa-oh-oah

This Hill Day
Do it all again
This Hill Day
Do it all again

Last year New York brought their fans
So did Texas & Michigan
But one key state didn’t show
South Carolina, where’d you go?
Stephen, you could be their man
Meet with Tim Scott & Lindsey Graham
About Vets & Homelessness
and services for PTS

Our asks last year
Ended up in bills
and statute
Oh yeah
But riding your coattails
With a tip o’ the hat, we’d rule
Yeah

Last Hill Day
Yeah we met up with our Reps
And we talked about some regs
Think we met on the capitol steps
Last Hill Day
Yeah we held a briefing on
Health IT one of the morns
Then we gave out some awards

This Hill Day
Stephen, join us on the Hill
Your elocutionary skill
Can win Congress’ goodwill
This Hill Day
Yeah I hope we change the law
Till we do we won’t stop-op
Whoa-oh-oah

This Hill Day
Should have you, Stephen
This Hill Day
Should have you, Stephen

I always thought the SC in South Carolina meant Stephen Colbert anyway. Now all Stephen has to do is say “Sure Can!” Great job to all.
