NV: State Begins Preparations for Medicaid Expansion
Nevada has allocated $279,119 for a planning commission to prepare for the 2014 expansion of Medicaid as required by the recently enacted Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Under current state law in Nevada, only families under 100% of poverty are eligible to enroll in Medicaid. By 2014, all states will have to provide Medicaid coverage for all individuals under 133% of poverty, including childless adults. Nevada estimates that this expansion will add 150,000 individuals to Medicaid in the state. The planning commission will determine how much additional staff and funding will be needed for the state to comply with this requirement.
