On Tuesday, March 1, the National Council and the National Alliance on Mental Illness held a webinar on the federal Mental Health Parity and Addictions Equity law. This law was enacted in 2008 and went into effect for most employer-sponsored insurance plans on Jan. 1, 2011. This webinar provided a general overview of the parity law and its effect on providers and consumers. Participants learned the basics of the law, the terms, classifications of benefits, and how to identify whether a particular plan is covered by the law.
The slides and recording from this webinar are now available online:
This webinar is the first in a two-part series on parity, co-sponsored by the National Council and NAMI. Stay tuned for more information about the next webinar in this series, which will cover strategies and tips for insurance appeals.
