HIT Incentives: Get the Facts from CMS

by Rebecca Farley on August 19, 2010

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has launched a website for individuals seeking information about the Medicare and Medicaid health IT incentive payments that were enacted under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The new CMS website provides up-to-date, detailed information about the Electronic Health Record (EHR) incentive programs. You’ll be able to find critical information on eligibility, getting started in applying to receive incentive payments, and whether your organization’s EHR meets the criteria for “meaningful use” that is required in order to receive payments. The website also includes a timeline for the EHR incentive program and a wealth of fact sheets explaining various aspects of the program. Of particular interest to community behavioral health providers is the section on “Medicaid Eligible Professional,” which lays out in detail the types of providers who are eligible to participate in the EHR incentive program.

Links to these and additional resources about federal incentive payments for health IT can be found on the HIT page of the National Council’s website. Or, visit the HIT section of MentalHealthcareReform.org for more information.
